I never really like red beans but heard so much about the lovely japanese red bean from food forum.
I happened to go to our favourite Ramen place - Tampopo at Liang court, i decided to look for it. Without looking at the price tag , i just took 3 packs and went straight to checkout. I only had a shock of my life when i was told to pay $33+. I couldn't say no to the cashier and my girl wanted to go toilet at the moment!! I just paid .... heartache man.
Looking at the package i have no idea how to cook it [the beans look so big, i thought i will never get cooked]
Decided to ask BH's brother in law to translate it for me. So here's how to cook it
Method
1. Soak the beans over night, approx 3-4 times the weight of the beans
2. Pour water and boil for 5-6 mins. Discard the water
3. Add water 3-4cm above the beans into the pot and boil till soft
The whole process took almost 1 hour. Think with the pressure cooker, it might save some time
The beans were awesome - sweet and fragrant, the soup was also very clear unlike the usual red bean soup.
It goes very well with green tea ice cream ... absolutely heaven
